Welcome to the center of innovation and collaboration for Utah's Charter School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Consortium! Here, educators, administrators, and industry professionals unite to foster strong Communities of Practice, driving forward the advancement of CTE programs statewide. Explore, engage, and elevate your CTE initiatives with us as we pave the way for student success and workforce readiness in Utah.
A Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common interest, passion, or profession and come together to learn from one another, solve problems, and deepen their understanding of a particular subject or skill. Within a CoP, members engage in ongoing communication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, drawing upon their collective expertise and experiences to advance their individual and collective goals. CoPs can exist within organizations, across industries, or even online, serving as invaluable forums for learning, networking, and professional development.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Administrators play a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing CTE programs by ensuring they meet industry standards and effectively prepare students for the workforce. They manage curriculum development, coordinate with industry partners, support faculty and staff, and ensure compliance with educational regulations. CTE administrators also focus on promoting student success through innovative programs, resource allocation, and strategic planning. Their efforts ensure that CTE programs provide students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary for career readiness and success in various technical and vocational fields.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are educational programs that enhance students' career and technical education by providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, connect with industry professionals, and participate in competitions. These organizations offer hands-on experiences, networking opportunities, and practical knowledge in various fields, from health sciences to engineering. By fostering a sense of community and professional growth, CTSOs prepare students for success in their chosen careers and help them build a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
College and Career Awareness is an educational initiative designed to prepare students for the future by exploring their interests and abilities, informing them about various educational pathways, and exposing them to a wide range of careers. It helps students develop essential skills, set academic and career goals, and connect classroom learning to real-world applications. By providing knowledge, experiences, and planning tools, this program empowers students to make informed decisions about their education and career paths, ensuring they are equipped for successful and fulfilling futures.
Concurrent Enrollment and Early College Programs allow high school students to earn college credits while still completing their high school education. These programs provide students with the opportunity to take college-level courses, either at their high school or on a college campus, giving them a head start on their postsecondary education. By participating in these programs, students can save on tuition costs, shorten the time needed to earn a college degree, and gain valuable experience in a college environment. Concurrent enrollment and early college programs help students transition smoothly to higher education and increase their chances of academic and career success.

School Counseling is a vital service that supports students' academic, career, and personal/social development through individual and group counseling, guidance lessons, and resources. School counselors help students set and achieve academic goals, explore career options, and develop essential life skills. They provide support for emotional and mental health issues, assist with college and career planning, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a positive and supportive school environment. Through these efforts, school counseling programs ensure that students are equipped to succeed academically, professionally, and personally.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Skill Certification is a program that validates students' proficiency in specific technical and vocational skills through standardized assessments. By earning these certifications, students demonstrate their competence and readiness for the workforce, making them more attractive to employers. CTE skill certifications ensure that students meet industry-recognized standards and gain practical, job-relevant skills. This program helps bridge the gap between education and employment, providing students with a competitive edge in their chosen careers and contributing to their long-term professional success.

Work-Based Learning (WBL) is an educational approach that integrates classroom instruction with hands-on work experiences to prepare students for the workforce. By participating in internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and cooperative education, students gain practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional connections. WBL helps bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, allowing students to explore career options, develop essential workplace competencies, and enhance their employability. Utah HOSA advisors are invited to participate in Operation Outbreak, an interactive, app-based simulation developed by the Broad Institute in collaboration with Harvard and MIT. These simulations will be held the mornings of May 14th and 15th, from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and immerse students in the fast-paced challenges of managing an infectious disease outbreak. Using a mobile app, participants take on key roles—such as government leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers, and public health officials—and must collaborate to contain the spread of a virtual pathogen.
Through this experience, students gain a deeper understanding of epidemiology, decision-making, teamwork, media, economics, socio-economic status, and the interdependence between science, policy, and healthcare. Every action affects others, highlighting how cooperation and communication drive real-world outbreak response. Operation Outbreak transforms complex public health concepts into an exciting, hands-on learning experience that connects directly to HOSA’s mission of preparing future health leaders.
Our team will provide advisors with clear preparation materials and support to ensure students are ready to participate and make the most of this unique event.
We’d love for your chapter to join us!
Simulations: May 14th and 15th
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Duration: 90 minutes of simulation plus preparation and debrief
To participate or learn more, please complete the following survey soon, as space is limited!

Dear Friends,
On behalf of Salt Lake Community College and the school districts of the Wasatch Front South Region, I would like to invite you to participate in an expanded advisory opportunity. As many of you are aware, Salt Lake Community College and several of the school districts along the Wasatch Front have been operating independent of one another when it comes to seeking advisory input from local construction trades partners. This practice has resulted in many of you sitting on multiple advisory boards in your efforts to support the local education programs. As education partners, we have determined this to be an unnecessary duplication of efforts and would like to remedy the situation in honor of the time being requested from our industry partners. Effective immediately, there will be a single construction trades advisory committee to serve the educational needs of the entire Wasatch Front South Region. These advisory meetings will be held at the Association of General Contractors (AGC) headquarters, located at 2207 South 1070 West Salt Lake City, Utah, and will be chaired by Joey Gilbert. The first meeting is scheduled to take place January 21st from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and we would love to have your participation. Subsequent meetings are being planned for September 9, 2026, January 13, 2027, and April 21, 2027. Please save these dates on your calendar and plan to join us. If there are other members of the construction trades community who may be interested in participating with this committee, please feel free to share this invitation. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact me at the numbers listed below. I look to seeing you on January 21st.
