Welcome to the center of innovation and collaboration for Utah's Charter School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Consortium! Here, educators, administrators, and industry professionals unite to foster strong Communities of Practice, driving forward the advancement of CTE programs statewide. Explore, engage, and elevate your CTE initiatives with us as we pave the way for student success and workforce readiness in Utah.
A Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common interest, passion, or profession and come together to learn from one another, solve problems, and deepen their understanding of a particular subject or skill. Within a CoP, members engage in ongoing communication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, drawing upon their collective expertise and experiences to advance their individual and collective goals. CoPs can exist within organizations, across industries, or even online, serving as invaluable forums for learning, networking, and professional development.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Administrators play a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing CTE programs by ensuring they meet industry standards and effectively prepare students for the workforce. They manage curriculum development, coordinate with industry partners, support faculty and staff, and ensure compliance with educational regulations. CTE administrators also focus on promoting student success through innovative programs, resource allocation, and strategic planning. Their efforts ensure that CTE programs provide students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary for career readiness and success in various technical and vocational fields.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are educational programs that enhance students' career and technical education by providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, connect with industry professionals, and participate in competitions. These organizations offer hands-on experiences, networking opportunities, and practical knowledge in various fields, from health sciences to engineering. By fostering a sense of community and professional growth, CTSOs prepare students for success in their chosen careers and help them build a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
College and Career Awareness is an educational initiative designed to prepare students for the future by exploring their interests and abilities, informing them about various educational pathways, and exposing them to a wide range of careers. It helps students develop essential skills, set academic and career goals, and connect classroom learning to real-world applications. By providing knowledge, experiences, and planning tools, this program empowers students to make informed decisions about their education and career paths, ensuring they are equipped for successful and fulfilling futures.
Concurrent Enrollment and Early College Programs allow high school students to earn college credits while still completing their high school education. These programs provide students with the opportunity to take college-level courses, either at their high school or on a college campus, giving them a head start on their postsecondary education. By participating in these programs, students can save on tuition costs, shorten the time needed to earn a college degree, and gain valuable experience in a college environment. Concurrent enrollment and early college programs help students transition smoothly to higher education and increase their chances of academic and career success.

School Counseling is a vital service that supports students' academic, career, and personal/social development through individual and group counseling, guidance lessons, and resources. School counselors help students set and achieve academic goals, explore career options, and develop essential life skills. They provide support for emotional and mental health issues, assist with college and career planning, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a positive and supportive school environment. Through these efforts, school counseling programs ensure that students are equipped to succeed academically, professionally, and personally.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Skill Certification is a program that validates students' proficiency in specific technical and vocational skills through standardized assessments. By earning these certifications, students demonstrate their competence and readiness for the workforce, making them more attractive to employers. CTE skill certifications ensure that students meet industry-recognized standards and gain practical, job-relevant skills. This program helps bridge the gap between education and employment, providing students with a competitive edge in their chosen careers and contributing to their long-term professional success.

By participating in internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and cooperative education, students gain practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional connections. WBL helps bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, allowing students to explore career options, develop essential workplace competencies, and enhance their employability. This program equips students with the experience and insights needed for successful careers in their chosen fields.

At the beginning of the review, the principal or director will be asked to “paint the picture” of the school (5-10 minutes). This will help me understand the uniqueness of your school, school goals, and how the school counselors support the overall mission of the school. We ask that your principal/director be in attendance for the entire review.
This will lead into a discussion regarding the components, indicators, and evidence. You should plan for the review process to take about 1 ½ -2 hours. However, times may vary, shorter or longer, depending on the documentation provided prior to the review.
For the required electronic working files documents, please create one folder that is titled: “USBE Required Documentation”. These documents are the only documents that should be in the folder:
To submit your electronic working files, please share the link to your Google Drive or online platform with me by August 10, 2025, at bethany.marker@schools.utah.
I am looking forward to getting to know your team and program better. If you have any questions, please let me know.

This comprehensive training is designed for Title VI Coordinators in K-12 and higher education settings who are responsible for ensuring compliance with federal civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin.
Participants will gain a solid understanding of the legal foundations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, including relevant regulations, policy guidance from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and key court decisions shaping implementation. The training will explore how Title VI intersects with other federal mandates, such as the Equal Educational Opportunities Act (EEOA), and will cover essential responsibilities such as investigating complaints, responding to incidents of discrimination, and developing policies and procedures to prevent and address discriminatory practices.

This training equips Title VI Coordinators with the legal insight and practical strategies needed to foster an inclusive, nondiscriminatory educational environment.
